June 18 2011 ... Day's Play

1975 -- World Cup... Gary Gilmour of Australia takes 6 wickets for 14 runs in the semi-final against England, one of the finest performances.

1979 -- World Cup... Sri Lanka beat India by 47 runs in an upset. Great day for Sri Lanka and an embarrassing one for India.

1896 -- Birthday of C.Ramaswami who represented India at Test cricket (1936) and tennis Davis Cup (1922). One of the rare breeds of double internationals.

1915 -- Birthday of Arthur Fagg, England Test cricketer and umpire. Only one to-date who has scored two double centuries in a game for Kent in 1938.

1958 -- Last day of Douglas Jardine , one of England's best Test captains. He skippered during the controversial Bodyline series against Australia in 1932-33.

2005 -- Last day of Syed Mushtaq Ali, one of India's most colorful Test opening batsman captains. Many remember his century and double century partnership with Vijay Merchant against England at Old Trafford, Manchester in 1936.
