1958 -- CA Milton scores an unbeaten 104 on his Test cricket debut for England against New Zealand at  Headingley.

1859 -- Birthday of George Hearne of England, brother of Frank and Alec Hearne played Test cricket.

1970 -- Birthday of MN Patel, born in Bombay played for England in 1996 against India, left arm spinner.


1979 -- Birthday of Douglas Hondo of Zimbabwe. Test fast bowler played in 2001.

1981 -- Birthday of Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India. One of India's most successful captains and ODI batsman with a great ability to finish matches.

1984 -- Birthday of Mohammad Ashraful of Bangladesh. Dashing batsman who became the youngest to score a Test century.

1899 -- Jack Hearne medium fast bowler of England registers England's first hat-trick against Australia in the Leeds Test. The victims were Clem Hill, Syd Gregory and Monty Noble, all scoring ducks.

1924 -- England score 503 for the loss of 2 wickets against S.Africa in the 2nd Test at Lords. A double century by Jack Hobbs and a century apiece by Herbert Sutcliffe and Frank Woolley enabled this record score.

1930 -- Don Bradman of Australia scores 254 against England in the 2nd Test at Lords, consisting 25 fours in 320 minutes.  Australia posted an imposing total of 721 overshadowing a brilliant 173 by Duleepsinhji for England .

1966 -- Test Debut of  Derek Underwood of England against the West Indies at Trent Bridge. Though he went wicket less, he was one of the best spin bowlers for England capturing 297 wickets. 

1933 -- Birthday of Mike JK Smith of England, captain of the mid 1960s. Toured India in 1961-62 and 1964.

1941 -- Birthday of John Jameson, born in Bombay played for England in the early 70s.


1941 -- Birthday of Peter Pollock of South Africa. Leading fast bowler in the 1960s, taking 116 wickets in just 28 Tests at 24 runs a wicket. Part of the great Pollock family, brother Graham and son Shaun.

1969 -- Birthday of Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka. One Of Sri Lanka's all time greats, MVP for the 1996 World Cup which SriLanka won. Opening batsman known for his attacking style and also a very useful spin bowler.

1973 -- Birthday of Dodda Ganesh of India. Fast bowler from Karnataka, took a lot of wickets in domestic cricket but had only a brief Test career,
