July 09 2011 ... Day's Play

1990 -- Richard Hadlee ends his Test career at 431 wickets with a final spell of 5-53. This was at that time the highest wicket tally, which was later eclipsed by India's Kapil Dev.

1930 -- Birthday of Roy McLean, prolific South African batsman played 40 Test Matches in the Fifties and Sixties.

1969 -- Birthday of Venkatapathy Raju, slow left armer of India during the Nineties, played in the Eden Gardens Miracle Test against Australia.

1979 -- JG Navle India's first Test wicket keeper cricketer passed away.

During the Opening Overs, SriLanka lost wickets quickly and fell behind the Resource Clock Index. The pattern continued during the Middle Overs they lost further wickets and fell well behind the Resource Clock.

During the critical end overs, SriLanka made a very good attempt to catch up and almost did. At the end of 46 overs SriLanka was 233 for the loss of 5 wickets and were almost within striking distance, but they fell apart and lost their 5 wickets quickly and lost the match by 16 runs. Very good late chase, but in a losing cause.

June 25 2011 ... Day's Play

1932 -- India's First ever Test Match at Lords versus England, captained by Col CK Nayudu. Mohammed Nissar excelled with a 5 for 93 bowling effort in a gallant losing cause.

1963 -- Exciting draw at Lords between England and West Indies. Last wicket pair of David Allen playing out the last over bowled with an injured (broken-arm) Colin Cowdrey at the non-strikers end.

1983 -- India pull of historic win at Lords beating the West Indies by 43 runs in the Prudential World Cup. Kapil's Devils as they were dubbed, humbled Clive Lloyd's heroes in a shocking upset.

1915 -- Birthday of Steve Tikolo one of Kenya's finest batsmen, who had an outstanding performance in 1996 World Cup.
